A budget for your family context.

Autobudget estimates household expenditure based on family size, city, income level and inflation, drawing on data assimilated and rationalised from three sources:

1. Base data from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) 2023–24 by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India.
2. Validation and rationalisation against third-party data and our own family-expenditure survey.
3. Observed market price points for a few large categories — school fees, insurance premiums, house rents and restaurant meals — across cities.

Autobudget works best within these bounds:

1. Monthly household income (post-tax, excluding investment income) between ₹40,000 and ₹50,00,000 per month.
2. Urban Indian cities only — Metros, Tier 1, 2 and 3. It doesn't yet work for rural areas or outside India.
3. Family size of 1 to 8 persons.

We've included the top 80 Indian cities — all Metros, all Tier 1, and many Tier 2. If yours isn't listed, pick another city in the same tier as yours, preferably within the same state, for a close-enough budget. Refer to this list for an exhaustive map of Indian cities by tier.

Income is one of the best indicators of what a family can afford — their lifestyle and their expenditure patterns. For most of us it's also the ceiling for how much we should spend. Autobudget uses it as the input that everything else flows from.

Everything you enter, except your email, is used for our calculation in run time only and never stored on our servers or any file. There is no way for us to retrieve that information.

We do save your email for future communication and updates. If you'd rather not receive the spreadsheet copy of your budget in your inbox, just provide a dummy email — the budget on screen will still work the same.
